Ulysses was born on Aug. 17, 1917, in Clyde, N.C., to Charlie Columbus and Mary Cody Greene. He was reared in Stecoy, N.C., and attended Stecoy area schools. In 1942, Ulysses served in the U.S. Army during World War II until his discharge in 1946. Ulysses worked in Grand Rapids at the furniture factory Stow Davis for 27 years. He was a member of the Belding Assembly of God. Ulysses loved to putter and his best hobby was woodworking. In October 1966, Ulysses married Doris Clark, the love of his life for 38 years, in Grattan. Ulysses is survived by his wife; three daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia Burne of Belding, Kathy and Jim Burleson of Attall, Ala., Michelle Jourdan of Orleans; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Gayla Jourdan of Crystal; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Harle and Betty Greene of Grand Rapids; Dewey Greene of North Carolina; one sister, Nola. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Friday at Huffman-Brigham Funeral Chapel in Belding, with Pastor Flores officiating. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today and noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
