Mr. Grescoviak had been active and able to do farming until two years ago and since then he has been in failing health. He was born in the province of Poland, which was at that time a part of Germany. His father died when he was a small boy. At the age of 24 Mr. Grescoviak entered the war and six months after peace was declared he entered the Franco-Prussian war. He was married in September, 1863, and for years he ran a large ranch in Germany. In 1889 he and Mrs. Grescoviak and their children came to American and settled in Chicago. Here Mr. Grescoviak worked for a railroad company. After living in Chicago for five years they came to Ionia and bought their home and small farm at the end of Hudson street, where they have lived for the past 40 years. For a few years Mr. Grescoviak worked at the Stafford factory and for 30 years he did active farming. There were 13 children and all but one of them were born in Germany. He is survived by the widow, seven children, Mrs. Rose Darges of Lansing; Stanley and Michael Grescoviak of Waukesha, Wis.; Mrs. Anthony Gazella, Anthony Grescoviak, Frank Grescoviak and Martin Grescoviak Jr.; 19 grandchildren, Anthony Gazella, Lowell; Michael Gazella, Muskegon, Misses Margaret and Irene Grescoviak, of Waukesha, Wis.; Frank Gazella, Paul and Richard Grescoviak, Mrs. Hollis Duell, Frank, Stanley, Martin, Michael, and Lawrence Grescoviak, and Misses Helen, Margaret, Marian, Frances and Janet Grescoviak, and Mrs. Ralph Moore, of Mt. Clemens; also 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 9 o’clock from SS Peter and Paul church. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet cemetery.
