A. R. veteran, died on Friday evening at 5:30, after a very brief illness, having visited Ionia during the earlier days of the week – hemorrhages being the cause. He was aged 63 years and 6 months, was a native of New York state, but a long time resident of Ionia county, and highly esteemed in the community. With the widow, five children survive: Charles, now in Alaska; Harry, a resident of the upper Peninsula; Dr. Loren, in the Phillippines; Miss Carrie, a teacher in the Ionia schools, and one other daughter. Funeral services at the home at 1 p.m. and at the Methodist church in this city at 2 o’clock on Tuesday. The funeral service for Wm. Grieves at M. E. church Tues. afternoon, was largely attended, testifying to the general respect in which he was held by the community. Wm. H. Borden post attended in a body, and conducted the usual ritual service at the close. The service by Rev. Dr. Cogshell was fitting and impressive. The music was by Mrs. Thane Benedict and Mrs. Wm. Todd, with Miss Fannie Gillett at the organ. The bearers, selected from the Masons and the G. A. R. post were: C. A. Ireland, Fred Mason, A. E. Jackson, B. R. Covert, N.L. Brookins and Jas. Greenman.
