Sentinel-Std. - Monday, August 26, 1974

Bernard B. Griffin, 74, of 439 Price street died Saturday at Ionia County 
Memorial hospital where he had been a patient during the past week.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa., March 19, 1900, he was a son of Bernard and 
Bridgette Griffin and later moved with his parents to Northern Illinois.

After completing his schooling he entered military service and served in France 
during World War I. Discharged from the U.S. Army in 1919 he enlisted in the 
United States Marine Corps for a three year period until January 1923.

He moved to Ionia where he made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Brenan in 
the rural area and was employed at Ypsilanti-Reed, Ionia Manufacturing and Dow-
Smith where he retired in 1966.

He was active in union organization while employed, and was a member of SS. 
Peter and Paul Catholic church, Moose Lodge and a member of American Legion for 
some 55 years.

He married Sue Cilox on October 12, 1962 and she survives.

Other surviving relatives include two daughters, Mrs. Lorraine Smith and Mrs. 
Patricia Robinson of Ionia, a stepdaughter Mrs. Lorraine Edwards of Ionia, ten 
grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Catherine Lower 
of Ionia. He was preceded in death by a son and a daughter.

Services are under the auspices of Leddick funeral home where prayers will be 
said at 7 pm Monday and where relatives and friends may call from 7 pm to 9 pm 
Monday.

Services will be at 10 am Tuesday at SS Peter and Paul Catholic church and 
burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery.
