JOHN H. GRIFFIN DEAD In spite of all that surgical and medical science could do, that dread disease, cancer, outdid them all and Mrs. John H. Griffin passed to her eternal home on Monday morning, just at break of day, having been in health for several weeks back, and being taken much worse the latter part of last week. She was a most estimable lady, a true and devoted Christian wife and mother, and though of a retiring and unassuming disposition her impress for good is plainly noticeable on whatever she touched or on whomever she met. Besides her husband she leaves two lovely children, Dale and Mamie, all of whom have the sincere sympathy of a large circle of warm friends. The funeral was held yesterday forenoon at the M. E. church of which she was a member, and was very largely attended. The pastor Rev. Laity preached a most excellent sermon from the text "Blessed are thy who die in the Lord". The singing was by Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Johnson, Merlin Morgan and Rose Warner, with Mr. L. W. Stewart, pianist. See obituary notice next week. OBITUARY Louise B. Fleming was born in Carlton township, Barry County, Feb. 16, 1866, and departed this life Sept. 22, 1913, aged 47 years, 7 months and 6 days. She was married to John H. Griffin Oct. 30, 1891--her home at that time being in Boston township, Ionia County. With the exception of about one year spent in California her married life has been spent here in Sebewa township. In Feb., 1833, she gave her heart to God and united with the Sebewa Baptist church. About a year ago she, with her husband and children, was received into membership of the M. E. church here. Having a retiring disposition and being unassuming in manner, she lived in a very sweet way her Christian life among us. Only those who knew her best could appreciate the devotion of her life to her family and her Lord. She suffered for a long time from that insidious disease, cancer, which suffering and bore with great fortitude and patience. With not a murmur escaping her lips she came to the close of her earthly career, when the Master said to her, about the dawn of day Sept. 22, "Come home." To mourn her absence she leaves her husband and two children - Dale and Mamie - aunts, cousins and a large company of friends. "Servant of God, Well done." ------------ CARD OF THANKS We take this opportunity to thank times, the many friends, relatives, neighbors and business men for the many kindnesses and acts of thoughtfulness during the sickness and burial of our beloved wife and mother.
