All of His Life Had Been Spent in Portland and Vicinity Allen A. Griffin, for nearly 70 years a resident of this vicinity, died at his home on Lincoln street late Friday afternoon. He had been in poor health for many years and during the last few months had failed steadily. His illness date from the time he was kicked by a horse years ago. Mr.Griffin was born in Sebewa township July 2, 1850, ad his parents, Mr.and Mrs.David Griffin, moved to Portland a few years later.He was one of 7 children, of whom but three survive. They are Mrs.M.S. Beden, Riverside,Cal.; Henry and Warren Griffin, Portland. D.G. Weippert, cashier of the Sunfield State Bank is a nephew. June 6, 1882, he married Miss Ella Briggs, daughter of the late Artemus Briggs.Their only child, Bernice Griffin Cleveland, died in Colorado about two years ago. A grandson Allen, survives.Oliver Cleveland, son-in-law, is in the service of his country in France. During his long illness he has had the constant care and attention of his wife. Of late Mrs. Derua Maynard and Mrs.H.A. Sprague, both closely related, have been with her. Funeral services are to be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00, at the house. Rev.John H.Stewart will come from Sparta to preach the funeral sermon. Portland Review - Tuesday September 24, 1918 E.S.Stevenson, of Lansing attended the funeral of Allen A.Griffin Tuesday. He was for several years associated with deceased in business. Mr.and Mrs.E.F. Cleveland and grandson., of Adrian, were also in attendance. Bearers were Henry and Warren Griffin, two brothers; Griffin Weippert, Andrew Sayers, Sunfield, nephews; John Griffin and Wm.Sweitzer, Lake Odessa Nephews.
