Reared in the Lutheran faith she became converted under the preaching of the pioneer preachers of the German Evangelical church, with which she united, and to which she belonged during the greater portion of her life. Later, however, during her stay at Ann Arbor, she became a member of the German Methodist Episcopal church. Such are the few facts to be told concerning the outward life of Margaret Grimmer. But the serene faith, the intense devotion, and essential kindliness of spirit, and of heart of Margaret Grimmer, these no pen can chronicle nor lips tell, but they will leave a long memory in the minds of her friends and children, who will continue ever to feel the silent efficacy of a long and laborious life of love. Many friends, acquaintances and neighbors attended the funeral for Mrs. Margaret Grimmer, at the home 341 State street yesterday afternoon. Rev. J. Niergarth officiated and members of the church sang. The pallbearers were three nephews of deceased, Will, Frank and John Mater, two sons-in-law, Francis Daniels and…(illigible)…. Mrs. Margaret Grimmer (nee Maier), was born October 12, 1832in Mahringen, Wurtemburg, Germany. In company with her parents she came at the age of twenty, to the United States, and settled near Grand Ledge, Michigan. At the age of twenty-three she was united in marriage, February 2, 1856, to Christian Grimmer, of Lansing, Michigan. Shortly after their marriage they settled upon a farm four miles north of Lansing whence they moved, a few years later, to a farm near DeWitt, Michigan, and it was there that they spent the greater portion of their active lives. In 1880, she moved to Ionia, Michigan where, with the exception of four years (1897-1901), spent at Ann Arbor, she continued to live until her death. To Christian and Margaret Grimmer were born nine children, three of whom died in infancy. Six children survive her: Miss Christine Grimmer, Mrs. Julia Schneider, Mrs. Emma McDonald, Mrs. Mollie Schmoltz, Mrs. Louise Daniels, and Dr. C. Fred Grimmer. She also leaves five grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is survived also by one sister, Mrs. Barbara Granes, of Springfield, Ohio. There remains of Mrs. Grimmer were taken to Lansing today for interment. The funeral was held here yesterday. Those who accompanied the remains were Miss Christina Grimmer, Mrs. Schneider, Mrs. Frank Schmoltz, Mrs. Will McDonald, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Daniels, Dr. Fred Grimmer and Rev. Niergarth.
