Grinnells, 89, died Thursday at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Myrtie M. Jenks of Ionia, 27 hours after the death of his sister, Mrs. Lydia L. Darling, 87, who also died at the Jenks residence. Mr. Grinnells was unconscious for a number of days and never knew of his sister’s death. Born in Orange township November 12, 1854, he was the son of Zachariah and Sarah Grinnells and was the last of nine children. He was married in 1874 for Olive Mann. The couple had five children, two of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Grinnells died in 1903. A son, Irving, died in 1933; another son, Glenn, died in 1935. His only daughter Olive died in 1910. Olive Grinnells Luce was the wife of N. H. Luce and mother of Mrs. Myrtie Jenks of Ionia. Mr. Grinnells had made his home for 32 years with his sister, Lydia, and they lived on a small farm in Portland until poor health when they were taken to the home of Mrs. Myrtie Jenks in May. Surviving are four granddaughters, Mrs. Jenks, Mrs. Hazel Pettit, and Mrs. Hester Davis of Lansing and Miss Opal Grinnells of Owosso; three grandsons, Hollis Luce and James Grinnells of Portland and Leslie Grinnells of Lansing; also 21 great grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. A double funeral service will be held at the Stone funeral home Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Rev. Paul L. Stewart will officiate and Mr. Grinnells will be buried beside his wife at Stanton.
