LIVED IN THIS VICINITY FOR 54 YEARS

Anestacia Haymaker, daughter of Judge Wm. D. and Adelia Haymaker was born in 
Bruersburg, Ohio, February 14, 1842.

She was married to Norman Griswold, December 31, 1863. To this union was born 
eight children, two are yet living, Mrs. Ida Gilbertson and Mrs. Emma Retan. 
Mrs. Gilbertson has always resided on the home farm, while Mrs. Retan has made 
her home for some years in Lansing.

Mr. Griswold died June 18, 1913, Mrs. Griswold following August 10, 1922. The 
deceased came to Ionia county, Michigan, from Defiance county, Ohio, in 1868. 
During her residence here west of the village of Lake Odessa, which covers a 
period of 54 years, she saw the dense forest gradually give way before the 
progressive pioneers who converted the wilderness into beautiful farms. Her 
death occurred after an illness of nine months, at the ripe old age of 80 
years, 5 months and 26 days.

She was a kind and devoted wife and mother. She was held in the highest esteem 
by all who knew her.

The funeral took place August 12, at 2:00 p.m. from the First U.B. Church of 
which she was a faithful member. Rev. C.H. Zuse her pastor, officiating, with 
Rev. Beardsley assisting. Interment was made in Lakeside cemetery.

beautiful floral offerings rendered us during the sickness and death of our 
dear mother and grandmother, also Revs. Zuse and Beardsley for their comforting 
words.
