He had been a patient at St. Mary’s hospital in Grand Rapids since the day before Christmas when he was transferred to the Ann Arbor hospital. Mr. Groening was released from the hospital the beginning of March only to return within a few days. He was born in Saginaw and lived in Ionia for 15 years where he was foreman of the round house of the Pere Marquette railroad. Surviving him besides his wife, Carrie, are four sons, Edward, Carl, Robert and LeRoy of Grand Rapids; one daughter, Wilma, of Grand Rapids; one grandchild; and his step-mother, Mrs. Clara Groening, of Grand Rapids. Funeral services will be held from the Greenhoe funeral home in Grand Rapids Monday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock.
