Iris Groom, 78, of Ionia, died unexpectedly Friday, November 2, 2007 at her 
home.  Iris was born in Ionia on September 17, 1929 the daughter of Walter and 
Ila Howay Wiles.  Iris graduated from Ionia High School with the class of 1947 
and was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #5065 of Sheridan and Shiloh 
Community Church.

Iris was married on August 21, 1948 in Ionia to Bird Groom and he preceded her 
on January 30, 2005.  She was also preceded by her parents, one sister, Wilma 
Wiles and one brother, Maynard Wiles.

Iris is survived by her sons, Bruce Groom of Edmore, Bill (Ellie) Groom of 
Belding and Dan (Mary) Groom of Fenwick.  She is also survived by her 
grandchildren, Gary (Charity) Groom, Jeff (Kelly) Groom, Sara (Dave) 
VanAllsburg, Nick (Andrea) Groom, Robert (Shayla) Groom; her great-
grandchildren, Gabrielle, Micah, Seth, Ethan, Erin, Brayden, Aiden, Camden and 
Abby and one sister, Betty McNally of Ionia.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shiloh Community Church with 
Pastor Ken Harger officiating.  Private interment will follow in Ft. Custer 
National Cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at 
Shiloh Community Church.  Memorial contributions may be given to the Michigan 
Special Olympics.  Care and service were entrusted to Johnson-Feuerstein 
Funeral Home, Belding.
