Dr. F. Oral “Jack” Grounds, 79, of Gowen, passed away August 16, 2004 at 
Gratiot Community Hospital in Alma with his family by his side.

Jack was born October 17, 1924 in Pimento, Indiana, the son of F. Oral and Lora 
A. Lyons Grounds Sr.  He was a veteran of World War II, proudly serving in the 
United States Army.  Jack graduated from Michigan State University, School of 
Veterinary Medicine in 1956 and later owned the Mt. Hope Veterinary Hospital in 
Lansing for 35 years, retiring in 1990.

He held life memberships in the American Legion Post 203 and the VFW Post 4406 
both of Belding.  he was a member of Shiloh Community Church.  Jack was a 
loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed hunting and the sports of 
MSU and Belding High School.

He was married on April 21, 1946 in Belding to June Richmond and she survived 
along with their children; Linda Benedict of East Lansing, Susan Young of Grand 
Rapids and Robert and Donna Grounds of St. Johns; his grandchildren; Bill 
Grounds, Roberta Grounds, Chad Koenigsknecht, Tracy Solak, John Young and Emily 
Young and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Dorotha Frost and step-mother 
Nira Grounds.

Funeral services for Jack will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Shiloh Community Church 
with Pastor Ken Harger offiating.  A luncheon will follow the funeral service 
at the church.  Visitation will be Friday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 
p.m. at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, 203 Pleasant St. Belding.  Memorial 
contributions may be given to Shiloh Community Church or The Belding Athletic 
Association.
