Ionia Sentinel Standard, 27 Jul 1974

Bliss W. Grove, 81, of 257 Lafayette died Thursday afternoon at the Ionia 
County Memorial hospital where he had been a patient the past two weeks.  Born 
in Kansas, Ohio, February 13, 1893, he was the son of Burton and Rebecca Baker 
Grove and moved to Lyons with his family when ten.  He was a graduate of Lyons 
high school in 1912.

He had worked for a brokerage firm in Chicago, Ill, until 1925.  September 17, 
1929, he was married in Chicago at the Fourth Presbyterian church to Bernice A. 
Hawley.  They had made their home in Lyons moving to Ionia in 1957.  He worked 
many years for the F.H. Grove general store in Lyons.  After coming to Ionia he 
was employed by the Weber Electric Company until the time of his illness two 
weeks ago.  He was a life member of the Lyons Masonic lodge, an avid bowler 
active in the Ionia Bowling Association many years.  He was awarded a special 
pin for the Ionia Bowling Hall of Fame in 1974.

Surviving are his wife, Bernice; son, Williard H. of St. Paul, Minn., daughter 
Mrs. Marilyn Dykstra of Jenison; three grandchildren; sister Mrs. Rudolph 
Hotalen of Towanda, Pa.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Leddick funeral home.  Rev. 
Richard Strait of Lyons United Methodist church will officiate and interment 
will be at Lyons cemetery.  A memorial has been established for the Lyons 
United Methodist church.  The family will be at the funeral home Friday from 7 
to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.
