She was the eldest daughter of Elias and Harriet Delong. After residing for some years in Pennsylvania and Ohio, she came to Michigan with her parents, brothers and sisters in 1862, in a pioneer wagon drawn by a team of oxen. She knew many of the hardships of pioneer life, her father settling in the woods of North Shade township, Gratiot county, where he cleared a farm near the Chick school. She was married to Oscar Goolthrite, April 5, 1864, who departed this life July 17, 1901. To this union seven children were born: Clinton, Joseph and Robert of Carson City; Eugene of Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Evelyn Kreighbaum, also of Carson City; Mrs. Carrie Buckingham of St. Charles, Illinois, and Vernon who died in infancy. February 1, 1910 she was united in marriage to Henry W. Grove who died in June, 1920. Mrs. Grove was a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal church which she attended as long as her health permitted. She had been in failing health for the past year and was a patient sufferer and all was done that loving hands could do to cheer and comfort her last days. She leaves to mourn their loss, two brothers, William and Alfonso Delong of Occidental, California; two sisters, Mrs. Rosaline Bigelow, also of Occidental, California and Mrs. Julia Hill of Carson City, Michigan; four sons, Byron Goolthrite of Carson City; one step-daughter, Mrs. Francis Boyer of Butternut; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren, and a host of friends by whom she will be greatly missed. Funeral services were held at the home on Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. F. G. Dunbar. Burial in East Side cemetery, Hubbardston.
