Henry Grove, Civil War Veteran, Answers The Last Roll Call

Henry W. Grove was born in Canada, Jan. 14, 1846, and at the age of six months
he came to Michigan locating in Ionia county where he grew to young manhood.  At
the age of 17 years, he heard his country’s call for help to put down the
rebellion, and with several other students he stacked his books and walked to
Ionia and enlisted in the northern army, serving three years.  

After the war he returned to the home of his parents until his marriage to Anna
Rexford who departed this life Nov. 16, 1905.  To this union was born three
children, Wm. Grove of Potterville and Mrs. Miller of Elwell and Danna who died
at the age of two and a half years.

After serving a number of years as deputy sheriff for Ionia county he made his
home in Hubbardston.

February 1, 1910, he was united in marriage to Drucilia Goolthrite, who lives to
mourn the loss of a loving husband and companion.  Mr. Grove has been in failing
health during the past year, but rapidly declined the last month, he has been a
patient sufferer, and passed away very peaceably to the great beyond full of
faith and hope being survived by his wife, two sisters, Mrs. Elnora Pond of
Grand Rapids and Emma Houghton of California, a son and daughter, also a host of
friends who will miss his smile and pleasant word he always had for each one.

The funeral services were held at the home on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. C.S.
Burchfield officiating, interment was at Hubbardston.

buried in West Side Cemetery.]
