The Portland Observer, Thursday, November 26, 1925

John H. Guernsey, aged Portland farmer, died Saturday afternoon, death coming 
suddenly while he was hauling cornstalks on his farm north of town.  Funeral 
services were held at the residence Tuesday, in charge of Rev. J. H. Stewart.  

Mr. Guernsey was born in the state of New York in 1850 and came to this 
vicinity 15 years ago.  While living in New York he was married to Miss Lydia 
Hicks, the couple celebrating their golden wedding anniversary four years 
ago.  Besides the widow one daughter, Mrs. Claud Richards, of Ionia, survives.
