Bob was born Oct. 23, 1927 in Ionia to Robert A. Sr. and Annie Laurie (Lehman) Guernsey. He was married in 1946 to Phyllis Hulbert and in 1964 to Nancy Riker. He attended Ionia High School and Ferris State College and served in the Army Air Corps. His major interests were his family, music, automobile and airplanes. Bob displayed his lifelong love of music with piano and song, being a member of a barbershop quartette, the "Staffmasters", SPEBSQSA, and the community choir. He was also a radio announcer at WION with the program "Music Worth Remembering". His other employment centered around autos and airplanes, including Orson Coe, George Coe Buick, Vito Buick, Ivan Clark/Chrysler, Larke Buick, his own body shop (Rub & Shine Shop) and Maule Aircraft in Napoleon and Moultrie, Georgia. He also operated his own upholstery business. Bob attended Shiloh Community Church. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Annie Guernsey; two sons, Scott Guernsey of Portland and Rod Rutledge of Kentucky; five daughters, Kathy Cleary of Grand Ledge, Julie Laughlin of Lansing, Denise Harrington of Crystal, Laura (Kirk) Steward and Hanna Guernsey, both of Ionia; 15 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Holland; 16 nieces and nephews and their children; one sister-in-law, Phyllis MacPherson and his special friend, Marie L. Haling. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert A. Sr.; his wife, Nancy F. (Riker) Guernsey; sister and brother-in-law, Wayne and Nadine Shetterly; brother-in-law, Monroe MacPherson; one son, Steve Rutledge; two grandchildren, Jennifer Guernsey and Stephen Brown and one son-in-law, Bert Patterson. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Shiloh Community Church with the Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Interment in Highland Park Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Rich St. Chapel of Cook Funeral Home in Ionia. Additional Comments: Services: 4 April 2000 Highland Park cemetery Sec.
