Guernsey died at 3:30 Wed. morning at his home 638 Lafayette Street, where he has been in low condition many weeks. He suffered a stroke of paralysis on Friday last, since which time he was unable to swallow food. Mr. Guernsey enlisted twice during the civil war the first time in the 21st Indiana, in which he only served 60 days, being discharges for disability. He enlisted in the 21st Michigan infantry Feb. 20, 1864, and was discharged June 28, 1865 by reason of the close of the war. Since the war his health has been poor, and he has spent the summers north for many years, camping in the open. This spring he was unable to go and it soon became evident that he could not long survive. He leaves a wife and an adopted daughter, Flora, wife of Earl Alexander of this city. His age was 71. Funeral from the home Friday, 2 pm. Interment Highland Park.
