Elmer W. Gunderman, 88, of Lake Odessa died Sunday at Battle Creek Community
Hospital.  Born Aug. 16, 1901, in Blue Island, Ill., he was the son of Henry and
Martha Wetsel Gunderman.  He attended schools in Blue Island and was married to
Emily Simmons of Dec. 24, 1927, in Portland.  She died in 1961.  He lived and
farmed in the Lake Odessa area most of his life.  He was a member of the Church
of God of Hastings.

Surviving are two sons, James Gunderman of Harrison and Fred Gunderman of
Vermontville; two daughters, Ruth Washburn of Battle Creek and Mary Jean Brown
of Grand Rapids; 24 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; a
half-brother, Howard Simmons, and a stepbrother, Floyd Simmons, both of Lansing.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. from Koops Funeral Chapel, Lake
Odessa.  Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.  The family will be at the funeral
home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.  A memorial has been established for the Kidney
Foundation, in care of the funeral chapel.
