He was widely known in Odessa township, and in fact all over this part of the country. He ran a sawmill at Algodon several years ago. He also owned property in this village. Mr. Gunn’s death came very suddenly and unexpected, although he had not been a well man for several years. After he had eaten a hearty breakfast he went to the woods with his team, and first assisted in sawing off a log with a crosscut saw, he then hitched his team to the log and drew it to the mill located in the neighborhood, and was returning and near the house when seen to stop. His daughter-in-law was the first to be attracted by his groaning, and saw him sitting by the road apparently in distress. He was hastily helped to the house and a physician summoned. He complained of pains in the region of his heart. Soon after a physician had arrived the old gentleman was seized with another paroxysm of pain which quickly ended his life. Neuralgia of the heart was assigned the cause of his death. The funeral services were held at the M.E. church, at Sebewa Center Friday afternoon, and the remains interred in the township cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. I.T. Weldon. Theodore Gunn was born in Sussex county, N.J., March 28, 1832 and while very young he went with his parents to Pennsylvania, his next move being to Bellevue, Ohio, where he was married. He next took up his residence in Addison, Mich., coming to Sebewa from there in ’65. He was followed soon after by his brothers, Joshua and Samuel, who took adjacent farms and built up that section of Sebewa, which was then mostly woods, to one of the best farming communities in the town. His brother Joshua died last year. Mr. Gunn’s first wife died about 15 years ago, leaving the following children: David, Isaac, George and Emory Gunn, Mrs. Jacob Sayer, Mrs. H. Whorley, Miss Ella Gunn, all of Sebewa, Mrs. Gravener Oatley, of Sherman, Mich. Twelve years ago last April Mr. Gunn married Mrs. Agnes Mauren, of Portland, who survives him. Deceased was a member of the Center church and was one of those active in its establishment and maintenance. He was known as a thorough business man and farmer and at 70 was actively engaged in the management of his large farming interests.
