Washington, died Sunday morning at Butterworth hospital in Grand Rapids after a brief illness. Born in Ludington February 17, 1892, he was the son of John and Mary Gunning. As a child he moved to Trout Lake, then to Grand Rapids, where he barbered several years before moving to Greenville. In 1923 he moved to Ionia where he was employed by the Hayes Ionia plant and later at the Mitchell-Bentley corporation. In 1946 he returned to the barbering trade in Ionia, retiring several years ago. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge and member of the First United Methodist church of Ionia. In 1911 he was married in Grand Rapids to the former Hilda Andersen, who died in 1958. Surviving are a son, Floyd of Ionia with whom he made his home the past several years; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1pm at the Kauffman-Doughty funeral home, Rev. Charles Fullmer will officiate and interment will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Masonic services will be under the auspices of the Ionia Masonic lodge. The family will be at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm.
