Ionia Sentinel Standard, 24 Aug 1987

Floyd Gunning, 76, of Ionia died of a heart attack Friday afternoon at Ionia
County Memorial Hospital.  Born March 29, 1911, he was the son of Thomas and
Hilda Andersen Gunning.  He was graduated from Ionia High School and attended
Western Michigan University.  He was catcher on the New York Giants’ farm team
before returning to Ionia where he owned and operated a business for 39 years
before retiring in 1986.

He is survived by one son, Jack Gunning of Paducah, Ky.; a daughter, Jill
Pickens of Orleans; and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held from the Main Street Chapel, Montgomery Funeral
Home at 1 p.m. Tuesday, the Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating.  Burial will be in
Sunset Memorial Gardens.  The family will be at the funeral home Monday from 7
to 8:30 p.m.  A memorial has been established for the Michigan Heart
Association, in care of the funeral home.
