He was born June 12, 1918 in Alma, Michigan the son of Arthur and Avis (Kiltz) Gunter. He married Virginia Gage November 16, 1942 in Saginaw. She preceded him in death in 2004. He lived the majority of his life in Saranac. He was a member of the Fifth Infantry Division of the United States Army serving in the European Theatre during World War II. He worked as a Tool & Die Journeyman retiring from Chrysler in the 1970’s. He was an avid square dance member, hunter, fisherman and gardener. He was a member of Saranac American Legion. Arthur is survived by three children; a son Kerry and Mary Gunter of La Place, Louisiana, two daughters, Karen and Tom Reed of Ionia and Kathy and Wayne Perry of Ionia; brothers, Richard Gunter of Saranac and Donald Holmes of Gowen; sister, Hazel Mac Donald of Saginaw, twelve grandchildren and twenty- six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother and one sister. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11:00 A.M. at Lake Funeral Home in Saranac with Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Interment East Plains Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Friday 2-4 and 6-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Anyone wishing may make memorial contributions to Ionia Area Hospice.
