Gustafson was born in Sweden Dec 5, 1871. He came to the United States May 31, 1887 to Muskegon, Michigan, where a number of his first years were spent. Later he lived in Chicago, Ill. He was married in June about 33 years ago to Bessie Mangleson. This union was blessed with four sons and one daughter. After leaving Chicago he came back to Michigan where another 26 years of his life was spent between Owosso and Ionia, the larger portion of years at Ionia. He was an affectionate husband and father. He was respected in the community and by his neighbors. Apparently he was in usual health in his fifty-ninth year, with the exception of a few days illness which resulted in sudden death Thursday morning, September 25, about 10:15 o’clock. Our heartfelt sympathy goes with the bereaved widow and family, and friends. He leaves a bereaved widow, four sons, Walter, Palmer and Albert of Lansing, Mich., and Harvey, of Ionia, and a daughter, Mrs. Margaret York, of Flint, Mich. Also two brothers, John Gustafson, of Chicago, and Charles Gustafson, of Muskegon, Mich. A sister, Hanna Battleson, of Muskegon, Mich; two grandsons, and other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held at his home north of this city, Sunday afternoon, Sept. 28 at 2:30. Rev. W. F. Boettcher was in charge. Interment was made in the Easton Cemetery.
