Haas, 44, of 851 East Main died early Friday morning at Ionia County Memorial hospital. He had undergone open heart surgery at Blodgett Memorial hospital in Grand Rapids in July. Born in Grand Rapids August 3, 1927, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Haas. While attending Ionia high school he was a prominent football player, graduating in 1946. He was employed as corrections officer at Michigan Reformatory 15 years. A veteran of the air force he received his discharge in 1949. He was a member of the St. Johns Lutheran church and former member of the Elks lodge. May 26, 1951, he was married in Belding to Audrey Kitzinger and she survives as do a son, Kim, at home and daughter, Cheri, student at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; father, Roy Hass, and stepmother, Marcella Haas; four brothers, Richard of Ionia, William of Durham, N.C., Donald of Clifford Lake and James of Ionia; sister, Mrs. Patricia Bradley of Ada. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Johns Lutheran church, Rev. A. R. Gallert will officiate and interment will be at Balcom cemetery. Mr. Haas will be at Myers-Roetman funeral home until time of services.
