Ionia Sentinel Standard, 28 Jul 2001

Yvonne (Vonna) Haas, 72, of Easton Twp., Ionia, passed away July 26, 2001 at her
home.  She was the daughter of Cliff and Leta (Jastafer) Shoen on May 3, 1929 in
Crystal.

Vonna graduated from Grant High School in 1947 and from Ionia County Normal. 
She was a country schoolteacher in both Ionia and Montcalm counties.  Vonna was
a social worker for the Ionia Department of Social Services for 27 years where
she touched the lives of many.  After her retirement, she and her husband of 38
years, Richard, spent the winter at their home in Hobe Sound, Fla., where she
loved to watch the ocean and pursue her passion for oil painting.  She was a
member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ionia.

Surviving are: one son, Larry Haas of Grand Rapids, two daughters, Rene (Russ)
Baird, of Ionia, and Lin Bonemma of Portage; four grandchildren: Corey (Diane)
Baird of Stockbridge, Derek (Rachel) Baird of Grandville, Nichelle Grundy and
Elise Bonnema, of Portage; four great-grandchildren; one
great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Betty (Ivan) Bowers of Fenwick; one
brother Barney (Lorraine) Shoen of Crystal.  She was preceded in death by her
parents, husband Richard in 1988, grandson, Alex Bonemma, brother Francis Shoen,
and Aunts Alta and Velma Shoen.

Requiem Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Monday from St. John’s Episcopal Church
in Ionia with Fr. Scott Anderson officiating.  Interment in Balcom Cemetery. 
Visitation is 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Rich St.
Chapel of Cook Funeral Home in Ionia.  Memorial contributions can be made to
one’s choice in care of Cook Funeral Home.
