Haberstumpf Died Last Sunday Was Former Resident of Ionia – Lived in Benton Harbor Last Several Years. Andrew Haberstumpf, Sr., died last Sunday morning at his home in Benton Harbor after an illness of about six weeks. He was the father of John Haberstumpf of this city and for many years was a resident of Ionia. The following commendatory notice appeared Monday in the Benton Harbor Palladium and is herewith given: “Andrew Haberstumpf, sr., of this city, died Sunday morning at about 11 o’clock at his home at 169 Bellview street. Death came as a relief to a complication of troubles from which he had been suffering for some time. For the past week the life of the deceased had been hanging by a thread. “The passing of Mr. Haberstumpf ends a life that had been singularly active. He was 72 years of age, having been born August 28, 1842, in Alterhausen, Bavaria, Germany. In 1870 he came to the United States first locating at Cincinnati. He engaged in the master brewer’s business and followed that occupation for 21 years. Seven years ago he came to Benton Harbor from Lake Odessa, Mich. He was one of the founders of the Master Brewers’ association. “Mr. Haberstumpf was known as a good citizen, a successful business man and a kind and considerate husband and father. During his short residence here he made many friends. “He is survived by a family comprising his widow, four boys and two daughters. The boys are Conrad, of Alean, N. Y.,; Andrew, jr., of this city; John of Ionia, and William of Ionia. The daughters are Mrs. Whitney Godfrey of this city and Mrs. Barbara Zoller of Cincinnati. One sister, Mrs. Katherine Weis, and a brother, John, both of Cincinnati, also survive him. “Funeral services will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the house, followed by interment at Crystal Springs cemetery.” File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/h/haberstu1424nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 2.4 Kb
