Sentinel Standard – Monday, 29 December 1930
Mrs. Charles Hacker, 82, died at the home of her son-in-law, Michael Dreger, 
Hill Street, Monday morning at 11 o’clock, following an enfeebled condition 
for several months.  Christmas morning she fell in the home and broke her leg 
and has failed rapidly since.  The funeral services will be conducted from the 
home Wednesday at 1:30 and from the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran church at 
2 o’clock.  Rev. B. H. Succop will be in charge.

Mrs. Hacker was a native of Germany coming to Ionia 40 years ago with her 
husband and two sons, Herman and Emil, and a daughter, who died two years 
ago.  Mr. Hacker died 21 years ago.  She was one of the honor members of the 
church of her faith and a worker for its interests in its auxiliaries.

Besides the sons, Herman and Emil, of Ionia, she leaves the following 
grandchildren:  Mrs. Kurt Mathe, Mrs. Jack Teichman, Carl Dreger, Mrs. Ray 
Kobel, Ann Dreger, Wilbur Dreger, Herman Dreger, Ruth Dreger, William Dreger, 
Mrs. Verne Slowinski, Donald Hacker, Harold Hacker, Evelyn Hacker and William 
Hacker.  She also leaves two nieces, Mrs. Emil Cornith of California and Mrs. 
Ellis Mahan, of Saginaw, and six great-grandchildren.

Sentinel Standard – Friday, 2 January 1931:
Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 the funeral services for Mrs. Charles Hacker were 
conducted from the home on Hill Street and from the Evangelical Lutheran 
church at 2 o’clock by Rev. B. H. Succop.  Mrs. Hacker, a native of Germany 
but long time resident of Ionia died Monday following the breaking of her leg 
Christmas day.

The affection which the community held for Mrs. Hacker was expressed by the 
beautiful floral offerings brought for the rites.  These were in charge of 
Mrs. John Schneider and Mrs. Charles Melzow.  Grandsons, Donald hacker, 
William Hacker, Harold Hacker, Carl Dreger, and husbands of granddaughters, 
Kurt Mathe and Jacob Tiechman, served as the bearers.  From out of town to 
attend were Mrs. Ellis Mahan, Saginaw; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kobel, Sheridan; Mr. 
and Mrs. Emil Hacker of South Haven; Mr. and Mrs. William Hacker, Jr., and 
Harold Hacker, Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Verne Slowinski, Lansing.
