Hackett, 79, an Ionia implement dealer for 36 years, died at his home, 340 East Washington street, Friday morning at 9 o'clock after being ill for 15 weeks. Mr. Hackett was born in Orange township, the birthplace of his parents, January 20, 1868, the son of Bernard and Alice Hackett. He received his education in Ionia county schools and in 1886 at the age of 18 he opened his first farm implement store at Treymayne's Corners which he ran for three years. He then became the Michigan representative for International Harvester and traveled throughout the state for 20 years. It was during this time in 1984 that he married Blanche Fell of Sebewa. The Hacketts moved to Ionia in 1904 but it wasn't until 1911 that Mr. Hackett opened his Ionia implement store in the old theater building where Frank's is now situated. He remained there for four years and then moved to his present location next to Stevenson's store. His son, Fred has been associated with is father in his business for 24 years. Surviving him are his wife, Blanche; one daughter, Mrs. Bernice Lampkin of Ionia; one son, Fred B. Hackett of Ionia; two granddaughters, Mrs. John J. Lalley of Dowagiac and Miss Kay Hackett of Los Angeles, Calif.; and one great- grandchild, John J. Hackett III, of Dowagiac. He had one other son, Louis, who died in 1939 and a brother, Eugene, who died 12 weeks ago. Funeral services will be held from Boynton's funeral home at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon.
