Hackett, 69, 2942 Bellamy road, rural Ionia, died Thursday afternoon at Blodgett Memorial hospital in Grand Rapids where he had been a patient for the last four weeks. He was born in Orange township, Ionia county, April 16, 1907, the son of Robert and May Rogers Hackett. He attended the Coon school and graduated from the Ionia High School. He then served an apprenticeship as a mortician with R. A. Brown of Greenville. He started working in 1934 for the Boynton Funeral home and furniture business. He worked for that firm until 1955. He then worked at Huber’s, also Romanow Sales and Service. Then he worked for ten years at Coe Auto Sales retiring in 1970. He married Ferne McKendry June 16, 1951. They have made their home on North Bellamy road since that time. They would have celebrated their silver anniversary next week. He was a member of the First United Methodist church, a life member and past worshipful master of the Ionia Masonic Lodge F & AM No. 36, and a member of the Riverside Farm Bureau. He is survived by his wife, Ferne, and one sister, Mrs. Edith Baker, of Ionia. Services will be Sunday at 3 pm from the Leddick funeral home with Rev. Charles Fullmer of the First United Methodist church officiating. Interment will be at Easton cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home to receive friends and relatives Friday and Saturday from 7-9 pm. A memorial fund has been established for the First United Methodist Church.
