She suffered a paralytic stroke in May 1956 and another December 24. Since then she has been at a Lansing hospital. Mrs. Hafer was born in Lebanon township, Clinton county, November 8, 1891. She married Mr. Hafer August 3, 1915 at Hubbardston, taking up their residence near Loon Lake in Montcalm county. Later they moved to near Palo, then west of Hubbardston and then to Muir before coming to Carson City where they operated a gas station-grocery store for a time and where Mr. Hafer now operates a gas station and farm implement business. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Carson City and St. Mary’s Altar Society. Solemn High Mass was held at St. Mary’s church Tuesday morning, January 8, at 10 with Rev. E. R. Fox as celebrant. Interment was in Maryknoll cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Burns-Gunther Funeral Home. Besides the husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Henry (Florence) Niesz of Lansing, Mrs. Stanley (Catherine) Pawlak of Albion, and Mrs. George M. (Ida) Brown of East Lansing; a son, Rex, Jr., of Carson City; 13 grandchildren; a brother, James O’Connell of Hubbardston; three sisters, Mrs. John McMillan and Mrs. Kate O’Brien of Hubbardston and Sister Mary Kerlan of St. Johns Seminary, Plymouth.
