HAFNER IONIA-Roman L. Hafner, 70, of Ionia died June 11. He was born in Dallas township, August 3, 1920, the son of Myron and Rose Esch Hafner. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Oldsmobile, where he has worked as a journeyman Die maker. He was also a retired farmer. He was a member of St.Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, the Knights of Columbus, U.A.W. Local 652, and VFW Post #3733. He is survived by his wife, Marian, three sons, Carl and Daniel of Pewamo and Robert of Westphalia; two daughters, Bernice Hafner of eastlake, Ohio, Joyce Heckman of Pewamo; 14 grandchildren; one brother, Aloysius of Westphalia. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman and Joseph. The Rosary will be recited at 3 PM and 8 PM, Thursday at St. Mary's Chapel, Westphalia. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at 10:30 A.M Friday at St.Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, with the Rev. Joseph Pettit officiating. Burial will be in St.Joseph Cemetery, Pewamo. Pallbearers will be Ken Hafner, Tom Hafner, Peter Motz, Dave Motz, Jarrod Hafner and Mike Smith. Arrangements were made by the Neller Funeral home of Portland.
