She was born March 7, 1899 in Germany the daughter of Carl and Katharine Rouff Scholtz. She came to the United States in 1923, moving to Cincinnati. She was married to Herman C. Hafner March 2, 1927 at the St. John’s Lutheran Parsonage in Ionia. The couple operated the Hafner Greenhouse since 1936. In 1949 they opened the Hafner Flower Shop. She was formerly employed by Dr. Marsh of Ionia. Mrs. Hafner was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the St. John’s Lutheran Ladies Aide Society. She as a member of the Michigan State Florists Association. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Herman Hafner Jr. of Saranac and Albert Hafner of East Lansing; one daughter, Mrs. Pauline (Polly) Brindle of Ionia; one brother, Paul Scholtz of Germany; one cousin, Albert Kuchler of Germany; 10 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Leo Kostizen officiating. Burial will be in Balcom Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the St. John’s Lutheran Church or the Cancer Fund and may be left at the Myers-Roetman Funeral Home.
