He attended Michigan State University and received a bachelor’s degree and then entered the School of Dentistry at The University of Michigan. He opened his dental practice in Ionia in 1933 and retired in 1991 after 58 years of practice, which appears to be a record among Ionia dentists. He served on the board of education of Ionia Public Schools for two terms, and also was a past president of Ionia Area Chamber of Commerce, in whose activities he was for many years a leader. His church - he was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church - played an important part in Dr. Haight’s life. He was involved in all aspects of church life and was a member of its choir for more than 40 years. And when the church began its Christmas custom of decorating an altar tree, he made many of the first “Chrismons.” Surviving his are his wife, the former Maxine M. Hutchins, whom he married in Ionia in 1936; a daughter, Annita Haight Moran of Chillicothe, Ohio; two grandsons, James Chandler Moran of St. Louis, Mo., and Michael L.
