Haines, 72, of Smyrna, passed away Sunday morning, May 28, 2006, at Spectrum Health Kent Community Hospital, Grand Rapids. Marvin was born Aug. 25, 1933, in Mosley, the son of Judson and Hazel Jones Haines. He graduated from Belding High School with the class of 1951. Marvin was a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Navy from January 1952 to December 1955. He served aboard the USS Cushing. After the war Marvin worked during the day at Jordan Manufacturing and nights at Leppink’s Supermarket in Belding. He worked for 40 years at both places. He was a member of the Friendship Club, Sheridan VFW Post 5065 and was a long-time member and deacon at Smyrna Bible Church. Marvin was always a hard worker at both of his jobs and at his church. He was a kind man who always helped others and had a strong Christian faith. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Marvin was married Oct. 7, 1956, to Frances “Irene” Henry in Belding. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Marjorie, Marie, Dorothy and Ruth; and brothers, Lewis and Howard. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Irene; their children, Robert Haines of Smyrna, Tammy Jo and John Foley of Grand Rapids; three grandchildren, Christine, John III and Jessica; brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Cheryl Haines of Lowell; second mother, Ethelyn Reeves of Smyrna; and longtime friends, Paul and Joan Reeves of Smyrna. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Smyrna Bible Church with Pastor Mike Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Smyrna Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Memorial contributions may be given to Smyrna Bible Church.
