He was born November 25, 1919 at Grass Lake, the son of Charles and Leota Gauss Hair. During his working years he worked as a farmer, as well as being the Maple Valley Township supervisor for several years. William also served as the drain commissioner and animal control officer for Montcalm County. During World War II he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, flowers, photography and puttering in the barn. William was a member of First Baptist Church, Howard City. He is survived by two daughters, Ginny and Lyle Brooks of Corunna, Linda and Bruce Wargo of Florida; two sons, David and Pauline of Middleville, Greg and Sherry of Belding; nine grandchildren, Susan, Jennifer, Jeff and Kathleen Brooks, Brian and Brad Hair, Dan and Jackie Hair, Nathan Schrader; 11 great- grandchildren; brother, Dean Hair of Indiana; and sister, Thelma Noble of Grand Ledge. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Heckman Funeral Home, Howard City, with Pastor Jim Housemen officiating. Burial is in Coral Cemetery. Memorials to Ionia County Hospice may be left at the funeral home where friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services Tuesday.
