June 8, 2016 WALFRID (WILLIE) HAKALA 1933-2016 Walfrid (Willie) Hakala is now delighting in the glories of Heaven. He has looked forward to this day - when he could begin praising his Lord and Savior face to face for eternity. Willie was born in Iron River, Michigan, on July 28, 1933, to Uno and Martha (Pari) Hakala. He lived an eventful life with his three sisters, Mary Hill, Mamie Anderson and Lillian (Duane) Danielson. He and his sisters enjoyed recalling their lives in a Finnish family. His upbringing shaped him into the wonderful, caring and hardworking man that he became. He studied at Michigan State University. This is where he met Gloria Roth - a match orchestrated by his best friend and subsequent brother-in-law, Don Zook. Gloria was the love of his life. They married on April 27, 1958. He will be lovingly missed by his three daughters; Cindy (Gary) Studt, Cheryl (Doug) Leazenby, Linda Werner and son-in-law Steve Werner along with grandchildren Greg Studt, Blake (Becca) Studt, Elizabeth (Brad) Adrion, Lauren Leazenby and Austin Leazenby, Tyler (Cheyenne) Werner and Drew (Hannah) Werner and great-grandchildren Eli Studt, Elise and Isaiah Werner and Brady Adrion. They will forever cherish the time they spent with their wise father and Grandpa. Also surviving are Gloria's sisters; June Bare and Jean (Verlin) Kauffman. Loved ones preceding him in death are parents Uno and Martha Hakala; sister Mary Hill; beloved great-granddaughter Evelyn Studt; sisters-in-law; Dolores Zook, Beverly Gauwitz, and Sharon Britten; and brothers-in-law Eli Hill Bare, Chester Anderson, John Bare, Chuck Gauwitz and Don Britten. Willie's life mission was to make things better; building, repairing, maintaining, improving, teaching and sharing.
