He was born in Orleans township and seven years ago was married to Ella Roberts. Two children were born to them, one a girl five years old and the other a boy of two summers. He was always very healthy until May 1895, when the entire family was taken sick with scarlet fever which lasted three weeks. When they had recovered, he was taken sick again in June with typhoid fever and for seven weeks he was under the care of the doctor and for most of the time was expected to die at any time. He recovered, however, but was left very weak and it was a long time before able to work. About two weeks ago he contracted a cold (as nearly everyone here has been having). Friday night at twelve o’clock, his condition was considered alarming and he began to fail rapidly, but was conscious until the last moment. He was not a member of any church but on his deathbed he expressed to his companions that he was saved and could see that distant shore and would die in the triumph of Heaven. He leaves a wife, two children, aged parents, one brother, and four sisters to mourn his untimely death. The funeral services were held at the F.M. church, Wednesday, Rev. Mr. Hartle of Orleans, officiating.
