Hall, 72, prominent Belding business man for nearly a half century, died Tuesday afternoon at 5:30 at his home corner of Pearl and Washington streets, after an illness of two years’ duration. Born on December 15, 1865, at Ashfield, Massachusetts, a descendent of one of the first settlers of Massachusetts, he attended school at Sanderson academy in that town and for a short time taught school before entering the salesforce of the Belding-Hall company at Boston. He came to Belding in 1891 and for the following 39 years was president and manager of this company, which manufactured refrigerators throughout its corporate existence in Belding until being sold to eastern interests in 1930. Since that date he had devoted his entire time to the Hall Orchards, Inc., one of Michigan’s largest apple growing institutions, of which he was president and manager. He was a past president of the Michigan Manufacturers association and a director of numerous corporations in Michigan. His Grand Rapids affiliations included the former American National bank, of which he was one of the founders. He was a member of the Peninsular club and an associate of many Grand Rapids men in hunting and fishing pursuits, which he followed ardently. He was a member of the Kinne Creek Association, a fishing club in Lake county. Many unobtrusive philanthropies marked his career. He was an honorary member of the Belding Rotary club. The Episcopal church of Ashfield, Massachusetts, counted him as a lifelong member. He twice served as delegate to national conventions of the Republican party, with which he associated himself politically throughout his career. He was first married in 1892 to Florence Wilson of Belding, who died in 1924. He married Mrs. Helen Brooks Davis of Saginaw in 1927. Surviving besides the widow is a step-son, William Brooks Davis. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the residence. Burial in River Ridge cemetery. The family will be glad to welcome friends who wish to see Mr. Hall either on Thursday evening or Friday morning. The casket will be closed during the services.
