Hall, 79, died about 6:30 Friday night at his home, 436 West Washington street. Mr. Hall practiced law until about a year ago when an accidental injury forced him to retire. Mr. Hall began his education in Ionia rural schools and after completing high school here, attended University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, and was graduated in 1906. He post-graduate work was done at Harvard university law school. Following admission to the bar in Michigan and the state of Illinois, he practiced law in Chicago. He was appointed and served several years as American vice consul in Calais, France, until returning to Michigan due to the illness of his mother. His parents were Arthur N. and Mathilda Martin Hall who resided in Ionia township. Mr. Hall was later appointed attorney for International Harvester company, Maritime Provinces, Canada. After his marriage, October 15, 1913 in Detroit to Bertha Wooster, Mr. Hall and his bride returned to France, where they lived six months. Upon return to Ionia he again entered law practice. He was elected and served one term as prosecuting attorney of Ionia county before World War I. Loyalty to his country led him to enlist following the outbreak of war and he went to Fort Sheridan, Ill., where he attended officers training school and was commissioned first lieutenant. Due to his previous residence in France and his ability to speak the language he was assigned there and served 25 months. He was mustered out following the signing of the Armistice. With his war duties behind him, Mr. Hall returned to Ionia and later practiced law in association with Burton Sibley. He served as circuit court commissioner about 20 years and several years ago, was honored for having practiced law 50 years. He was a member of First Christian church and a member and officer of Ionia Country club for many years. He was also a member of American Legion, Elks lodge, Greenville City club. Surviving are his wife, Bertha; two brothers, Roy Hall of Ionia and Ralph of Port Huron; a niece, Dorothy Winchell Weiss of Denver, Colo., daughter of his only sister and husband, Dr. and Mrs. George Winchell, formerly of Ionia. The body will be at the Hall home on West Washington street until 10 a.m. Monday when it will be taken to Myers funeral home where funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Monday. The Rev. James W. Kendall of First Christian church will officiate. A Memorial fund has been established for First Christian church.
