The whistle sounded, but the man was deaf and only attempted to leave the track when he felt the jar of the train. He was struck in the back and side of the head, and hurled into the ditch. The train at once stopped and the dead man was picked up. Nothing by which he could be identified was found, so he was taken to Pewamo where he was at once identified as David Halstead. It was a deplorable affair, but it is believed that no blame attaches to the railway, as Mr. Halstead was deaf and had been warned not to use the track as a thoroughfare. An inquest will be held at Pewamo today. Halstead lived alone at Muir, and has a brother at same place, also a sister, Mrs. Tucker, in Lyons. The funeral takes place today at the Lyons M.E. church, conducted by Rev. W.E. Ogden.
