Halsted died at his farm home on the lower angling Pewamo road two miles northeast of Lyons on Wednesday, Aug. 7th, aged 78 years, 8 months and 24 days. He had been in failing health for some time. Deceased was born November 14th, 1856, in Riley township, Clinton county, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Judson Halsted. December 23rd, 1877, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Lyon, who survives. To them were born eight children, five of whom survive as follows: Mrs. Richard Bogert of this village; Walter Halsted of north of Muir; Ned Halsted of Muir; Clint Halsted of east of town, and Ford Halsted of Ionia. There are also left numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of friends; also one sister, Mrs. Martha Youngs of Perrinton, and one brother, Clark Halsted of Kalamazoo. Deceased united with the Lyons M. E. church on July 22, 1920, and was faithful in attendance while in good health. Mr. Halsted had spent practically all of his life in Ionia county with the exception of a short period spent in Colorado. He has been an indulgent father, a good neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. A brief prayer service was held from the late home Sunday afternoon at two o’clock, and a half hour later a funeral service was held in the Lyons M. E. church, conducted by Rev.L. M. Whittemore. Vocal duets were sung by Mesdames Melvin Burtraw of Muir and James Hopkins of Lyons, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Therrel Snyder. The bearers were E. S. Faller, E. M. Vance, S. W. Mimball, E. I. Goodwin, Hart Brown and John Kalb. Interment in Lyons cemetery. Those from a distance to attend the funeral were Mrs. Martha Youngs and Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Youngs, Perrinton; Samuel Knapp and Vern Halsted, Lansing; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Nickels, St. Johns; Mr. and Mrs. E. Landenbeck, Middleton; Clark Halsted, Kalamazoo; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Brown, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. E. Hollie, DeWitt; Mr. and Mrs. Foster Bogert, Grand Rapids.
