Halsted, 79, died late Wednesday at his home on Olmstead road following a series of strokes. He had been in ill health for some time. Mr. Halsted resided in Lyons a few years following his marriage in 1922 to Leona Shattuck and had lived at the present farm the past 40 years. He was a poultry raiser and fur buyer. Born in Bloomer township, Montcalm county, September 12, 1886, he was the son of Henry and Mary Halsted. Surviving are his wife, Leona; four daughters, Mrs. Gerald Swainston of California, Mrs. John Currigan of Mason, Mrs. William Maxwell of Midland and Mrs. Philip Cummings of Long lake; two sons, Donald Halsted of New Brunswick, N.J., and John with United States Navy at San Francisco, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and one brother, Clinton Halsted of Lyons. Two sons, two brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at North Plains Community church. The body will remain at Shaw-Rivett-Hull funeral home in Muir until Sunday noon. Burial will be at Lyons cemetery. --------------- Ionia Sentinel Standard, 17 Jan 1966 Lyons – Funeral services for Walter B. Halsted were held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the North Plains Community church with the pastor, Rev. Charles Henderson officiating. Music was in charge of Mrs. Francis Ralph of Lyons. Bearers were Kyle Obery, Howard Dick, Clee Brown, Max Reynolds, Bernard Russell and Wilbur Wiggins. Burial was in Lyons cemetery. Two sons, Verne and Jerry, preceded him in death also two brothers, Ned and Ford and one sister, Mrs. Lottie Bogert. Among those from away was a son, John, who is stationed with the United States Navy at San Francisco, Calif. Friends were from Battle Creek, Hastings, Grand Rapids, Ionia, Lansing, Mason, Palo, DeWitt, Perrinton, Fowler, Muir and Lyons.
