Lyons Herald, 27 Feb 1908

Seldom has an event occurred in our village which has caused such universal 
sorrow as the death of Frank Hamler.  He was a young man of exceptionally good 
habits and was at the very beginning of active life.  Life was full of promise 
and the skies were never brighter; the coming years were filled with happy 
plans.  

Frank came home last Friday from Ann Arbor.  He had not been feeling well 
before he started, but at Lansing his condition was such that he consulted a 
doctor, who told him he had appendicitis and to get home as soon as possible.  
On reaching Lyons he called a doctor and it was determined that an operation 
was necessary.  Dr. Young of Grand Rapids came Monday morning and performed the 
same and about two o’clock Wednesday morning our young friend passed “over the 
river” surrounded by his loved ones.  He was unconscious from 9 o’clock to the 
time of his death.

Frank Hamler was the son of Mrs. Jane Stryker and was born in Lyons July 18, 
1885, passing all his life here.  He graduated from the Lyons High School in 
1905 and at once entered the dental department of the Michigan University, from 
which he would have graduated this summer.

He was true to every trust and ever faithful to the duties that devolved upon 
him.  His friends were only limited to his acquaintances, for to know him was 
to love and esteem him.

Thus in the full flush of his young manhood, ‘ere the days had begun to 
lengthen in the journey, death closed the book of life to him, and still the 
riddle is unsolved and its mysteries do but deepen as grave after grave is made 
along the way.
	
The funeral will be held at the Methodist Church Friday at two o’clock fast 
time.
