Hamlin, 86, for many years a resident of Portland, died in a Lansing hospital last Wednesday, after having suffered a cerebral hemorrhage on Monday. Funeral services were held in Lansing Saturday afternoon, Rev. Lowell McCarty, pastor of Portland Congregational church, officiating, and burial was in Portland Cemetery. Born in Westphalia Mrs. Hamlin’s maiden name was Minnie McVeigh and she was born in Westphalia township, June 22, 1866. She was married to John Hamlin in 1884, in the home of her parents, who then lived north of Portland on what is now highway M-166. The couple took up residence on a farm just north of the McVeigh place, and resided there until moving into this village, where Mr. Hamlin died 18 years ago. Moved to Lansing 10 years ago Mrs. Hamlin went to Lansing to reside and for the past two years had lived with her daughter, Mrs. Leonard Schaar, in Washington apartments. Another daughter, Mrs. Arlo VanHouten, also survives, and resides at Grand Ledge. There are five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hamlin was a member of Portland Grange, Portland Congregational church, the Congregational Guild, and the Lansing Newcomers club. Bearers were Charles Munger, A.W. Hughes, Robert Holtz, Harry Hoyt, Kenneth VanHouten, Richard Watzel.
