Floyd E. Hammond Sr., 97, of Fenwick, formerly of Ionia, died Thursday at the 
Ionia Manor.  He was born, the son of William and Cora Essex Hammond, on 
August 12, 1895, in Lyons.  

He owned the Hammond Meat Market in Lyons.  He was a farmer in both Montcalm 
and Ionia Counties.  He was a life member of the Ionia Masonic Lodge #36 
F.&A.M., a member of the Eastern Star in Lake Odessa, a life member of the 
Ionia White Shrine #41, a member of the Ionia Royal Arch Masons and the Ionia 
Commandery #11 Knights Templer, a life member of the Ronald Grange and a 
member of Shiloh Community Church.

Surviving are three sons, Kenneth of Ionia, Lewis W. of Hobbs, New Mexico, and 
Milton of Fenwick; 20 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; and 30 great 
great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by two wives, Lona in 1971 and 
Helen in 1981; one son, Floyd E. Jr. in 1985; and two sisters, Hazel Tubbs and 
Ina Denny.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Shiloh Community Church, 
with the Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating.  Burial will be in Woodard Lake 
Cemetery.  The organist will be Beverley Harger.  Pallbearers will be Dale, 
Eugene, William, Robert, Allan, and Stephen Hammond.  The family will be at 
the Rich St. Chapel of Cook Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. 
Sunday.  A Masonic service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral 
home.  A memorial has been established for the Shiloh Community Church, 
Building Fund, in care of the funeral home.
