Hammond, 74, of Zephyrhills, Fla. and Woodard Lake, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2001, at East Pasco Medical Center in Zephyrhills. Milton was born April 17, 1926, in Ronald Township, the son of Floyd and Lona (Wilder) Hammond. He graduated from Ionia High School in 1944. After he came home from serving his country as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy during WWII, he married Doris Wilson in Montcalm County on June 14, 1947. Mr. Hammond worked for Consumers Power Co. for 32 years. Milt loved John Deere tractors along with hunting, fishing and playing cards. He also liked football and baseball, following the Lions and Tigers and really enjoyed the Ionia Free Fair. Milt was a member of several Masonic Lodges, Ronald Grange and Sheridan V.F.W. Post #5065. Milt is survived by one daughter, Ellen Alayne (Bill) Groom, of Orleans; two sons, Allan Milton (Patty) Hammond, of Utah, and Stephen Wayne (Pam) Hammond of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Brian (Amy) Hammond, Aimee (Wm. Brian) Memory, Lacey (Bryan) Crow, Jeff (Kelly) Groom, Gary (Charity) Groom, Sarah Groom and Andrew Hammond; 8 great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth (Bernice) Hammond; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Hammond and Margaret Hammond; and many favorite nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by two brothers, Lewis Hammond and Floyd Hammond Jr. Visiting hours for Milton E. Hammond will be Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and again from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, Rich Street Chapel, Ionia. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. from Shiloh Community Church with Pastor Kenneth Harger officiating. Interment will be in Woodard Lake Cemetery with the Sheridan V.F.W. Post #5065 conducting military services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shiloh Community Church. Envelopes are available at the church and Cook Funeral Home.
