Bernice E. Hammond, of Ionia, age 89, loving mother and grandmother, passed 
away on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009.

She was born on May 24, 1920 in Bushnell township, the daughter of Fred and 
Roxie (Park) Edwards.  Mrs. Hammond graduated from Sheridan High School and 
worked for Ypsilanti-Reed for 19 years.  She then went on to retire from the 
State of Michigan Department of Transportation in 1987.  She married Kenneth 
Hammond on June 25, 1937 in Palo, and he preceded her in death in 2005.  Also 
preceding her in death were a granddaughter, Melissa Sue Dingee, 2 sisters and 
2 brothers.

Surviving are her daughters, Patrecia (Robert) Bradford of Lakeland, Fla., 
Connie Chick of Ionia, Cathy (Tom) Lowell of Wacousta, Mich. and Christine 
(Jeff) Dingee of Grand Ledge; 1 son, Bob Hammond of Ionia; 13 grandchildren 
and 12 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Harger at 11 a.m. 
Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009 at the Lyons-Muir Church, 1074 Olmstead Rd., Muir with 
interment following at Woodard Lake Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 
at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes, Ionia from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday.  
For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice House of 
Mid Michigan in memory of Mrs. Bernice E. Hammond.
