Edward Dewitt Hammond was born in Sycamore, Illinois, April 5, 1846, and died 
at his home in Grand Ledge, November 16, 1914, aged 68 years, 7 months and 21 
days.  He came to Orleans, Ionia county in 1879 and resided there until he 
moved to Grand Ledge in 1910.  He married Mrs. Anna Butterfield of Phelps, New 
York, 47 years ago and to this union seven children were born.  Two preceeded 
their father in death.  The living are Mrs. Dan Kinney of Cleveland, Ohio, Mr. 
Dewey Hammond of Grand Ledge,  Mr. Frank Hammond of Lansing, Mrs. Fred Currie 
of Orleans and Mrs. Germain Every of Grand Ledge, who with the widow and seven 
grandchildren are left to mourn a loving husband and father.  The old time 
friends of Orleans and vicinity extend sympathy to the bereaved widow and 
family.
