Born in Ionia County Aug. 18, 1921, he was the son of Charles and Ila Shumway Hamp. He was graduated from Lake Odessa High School and was formerly employed by Industrial Metal Products Co.; Lansing. A veteran of World War II, he was a member and former post commander of Cole-Briggs Post No. 48, American Legion, and was a life member of VFW Post 3293 in Grand Ledge, and was a member of Lansing Elks Lodge No. 196. He also served as a Grand Ledge City alderman. Surviving is a son, the Rev. Gary Hamp of Owosso; two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Janet K.) Smith Kitto of Lansing and Carol S. Mayes of Okemos; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Roger Hamp of Saranac and Robert Hamp of Ionia; two sisters, Mildred Bopp of Saranac and Ruth Courtney of Florida. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Holihan Funeral Home, 406 N. Bridge Street, Grand Ledge. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Grand Ledge. The family will be at the funeral home Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial for Cole-Briggs Post No. 48, American Legion, has been established in care of the funeral home.
